Animal Collective. Side Four. Part Four.

Merriweather Post Pavillion, is a pretty shabby release despite it’s awesome album cover. It has brilliant moments but its uniqueness lies in the atmosphere of the tracks and not the songs. The album just blends together creating the sensation of a heavily-reverbed coma.

The standouts tracks are great: Taste, My Girls (I went to a show in LA where whores behind us were only awaiting this song and once it played they split for a better scene in which to use coke, blow men, and involve in shallow discus ions of MTV programming while wasting away their 20′s (I’m just probably jealous)), Summertime Clothes, and Brothersport.

Most of the album is dull enough to play on an elevator and if propositioned could you tell me the differences between Lion in a Coma, Guys Eyes, Also Frightened, Daily Routine, and Bluish? Scattered lyrics at most? Faster Beat? And finally, No More Runnin is probably the worst track Animal Collective’s made in a while and therefore I don’t bother running I just start skipping (get it? ha).

In conclusion, I don’t want you to think based on these articles that I don’t like the collective of Avey, Panda, Geologist, and the other guy because I do! They’re probably the most innovative mainstream band out there and put on a hell of a show.  The band absolutely creates some amazing standalone tracks worth all of the praise they receive but I want it to be noticed that they don’t really have any talent for full lengths and never have despite what pitchfork says.
